                Mango (Mangifera indica) production




                Regions of mango production

               •  Mediterranean, semi-arid, winter rainfall pattern areas (California, Chile, Israel).

               •  Humid subtropical areas with summer rainfall pattern (South Africa, Mexico, and Thailand).

               •  Semitropical/warm subtropical areas with summer rainfall pattern (India, Florida, Dominican

                  Republic, Indonesia, and Taiwan).

               •  Hot, arid, desert, environments with little to no rainfall (Peru).

               •  Hot, dry, tropical areas with little/moderate rainfall (Mexico).

               •  Exposure to cool/cold non-freezing temperatures during fall/winter or drought (pronounced

                  wet/dry area).

               •  Many well drained soil types, pH 4.5-7.5, with moderate to low fertility.



                Botany

               •  Anacardiaceae

               •  Important fruit crops within the Anacardiaceae include cashew (Anacardium occidentale) and

                 pistashio (Pistacia vera).

               •  Origin –subtropical northeastern Indian-Burmese region.

               •  Centers of diversification and evolution include Maylay Archipelago and southeast Asia.
